Shut Up Skinny Bitches! The commonsense guide to following your hunger and your heart Maria Rago PhD Greg Archer 9781935254324 Books Reviews

  • I absolutely loved this book and I couldn't put it down! A former certified personal trainer, I struggled for decades with binging and body image issues. "Shut Up, Skinny Bitches" was a refreshing, inspiring read. I'll admit I read the other skinny bitch-themed book, but after I finished it, I felt worse about myself. This book had the opposite effect upon me, and I wish it had been published when I was younger. Archer and Rago's intelligent, humorous and soulful writing empower and educate the reader. I'm a foodie and I don't want to give up all the delicious foods I love; "Shut Up, Skinny Bitches" doesn't require that anyone take on a spartan, extremist, unrealistic way of eating. The book doesn't ask us to become pinched skeletons. It's the kind of book I will re-read again and again to remind me that life is about balance, positivity, and joy. Kudos to Archer and Rago for focusing what matters most in life happiness, service, and love, instead of bitterness and jealousy.
  • I loved this book. A quick read, to the point, and eye opening. It puts into perspective what we all know Moderation is key.
  • What a great opportunity to get a reality check on eating and feeling good about yourself. Despite the funny title, it's an honest look at how to eat healthfully and heartily. I highly recommend!
  • very good practical ideas about listening to inner signs of hunger and satiety. I didn't give it 5 stars because it contains a lot of criticism against veganism, and i'm a vegan. In the kindle edition there was no table of contents.
  • I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT EVERYTHING THAT I EXPECTED FROM READING THIS BOOK WAS MET BEYOND IMAGINATION. ALTHOUGH, MY ONLY CONCERN IS THAT THE TONE OF THE BOOK COULD POTENTIALLY REDIRECT THE READERS FEELINGS AND MISS THE WHOLE OBJECTIVE OF THIS BOOK, WHICH IS TO EDUCATE EVERYONE ON HOW TO RE-ESTABLISH A WONDERFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD.
READING THIS BOOK YOU HAVE TO BE OPEN TO ASSERTIVENESS DIALOGUE. THE PROBLEM WITH OUR SOCIETY IS THAT WE HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED FROM AN EARLY AGE THAT "THIN" OR BEING "SKINNY" IS THE WAY TO BE ACCEPTED IN OUR SOCIETY. AND UNFORTUNATELY SINCE THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A LONG TIME, THE NEWEST GENERATION IS NOW BEING RAISED BY THE PREVIOUS GENERATION WHERE ALL THIS BEGAN.SO TO BEGIN TO CHANGE THAT WE HAVE TO START EDUCATION ALL THE ADULTS SO THAT THEY MAY NOT PASS THIS TO THEIR CHILDREN. EATING DISORDERS OR DISORDERED EATING IS ALL LINKED TO EMOTIONAL ISSUES, THAT COULD BE CONNECTED TO SOCIETIES "EXPECTATIONS" ON HOW WE SHOULD ALL LOOK AND WHO WE NEED TO BE. OF COURSE READING THIS BOOK WILL NOT BE THE ONLY THING PEOPLE NEED TO DO TO RE-ESTABLISH A HAPPY RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD, THERE'S ALOT OF OTHER THINGS THAT PLAY INTO THAT. WE HAVE TO WORK TO UNDO WHAT HAS BEEN DONE. RE-PROGRAM OUR BRAINS TO BE OK WITH EATING ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING IN MODERATION!!!! I APPLAUD DR. MARIA RAGO AND GREG ARCHER FOR HAVING BALLS TO START AN AMAZING REVOLUTION OF POSITIVE CHANGE IN SOCIETY!!!! THIS BOOK WILL CAUSE A HUGE UPROAR IN SOCIETY ONLY BECAUSE IT WILL MAKE AN IMPACT ON EVERYONE THAT READS IT, WHETHER IT BE GOOD AND BAD, I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY THAT FINALLY SOMEONE HAS INSERTED THE SEED.
NOTHING WILL GROW AND CHANGE UNTIL SOMEONE IMPLANTS THE SEED!!! THANK YOU MARIA AND GREG FOR CRACKING SOCIETIES "SKINNY BITCH MINDSET"!!!!
  • A great change of pace from the usual drudgery of diet books! Welcome to the 21st century, it's about time for us all to fight back against this obsessed nation of dieters and start to get REAL.....Thank you Dr. Rago for enlightening us all!
  • What I loved about "Shut Up" is that it does not offer a panacea. It tells us to think reasonably about our bodies and the way we nourish our body, through food and movement and acceptance. Rather than an ultra-prescriptive tome (eat this! look like this!), this book asks - implores - us to treat ourselves nicely, which does mean vegetables, and does mean exercise. It also means listening, being compassionate, and caring. Without being self-helpy or patronizing, Dr. Rago and Mr. Archer provide a way of thinking about food and weight that incorporates the brain and the heart, rather than ignoring both.
  • As someone who has gained and lost hundreds of pounds total over the years, I LOVED this book. I'm finally at a point in my life where I can no longer weigh myself daily, count calories or points or carbs, or obsess over being thin anymore. This book really spoke to me, about learning to love my body as it currently is, trusting my own hunger, doing exercise I enjoy, and letting go of the notion that the only way to be happy is to be thin. I will read this again and again!
