Striking photographs of 120 influential figures of the twentieth century highlight a singular sartorial detail that the stars wore first and that, as a result, redefined fashion. In a series of iconic portraits accompanied by insightful and sometimes dishy text, this volume examines the most influential stars of the twentieth century and the "killer detail" that made them stand out and for which they would forever be remembered. If what Stendhal called "the charming little flaw" is what inflames desire, then the killer detail is the harbinger of true elegance. It is a particular feature that catches the eye, encapsulates an attitude, or refines a style, distinguishing the wearer from the crowd. The Killer Detail is a veritable fashion show featuring writers, artists, performers, and models who all left their mark on the twentieth century as bellwethers of style from Marlene Dietrich’s pantsuit to Kate Moss’s skinny jeans; from Liz Taylor’s leopard-print swimsuit to Jimi Hendrix’s military jacket; and from Thelonious Monk’s beret to Frank Sinatra’s fedora. These are the individuals who dared to invent new perspectives in fashion and adopt fresh trends that would be reinvented by others continually for years to come.

"This book is not what I expected (a volume focused far more on the technical fashion details that the individuals within started, added life to, or made iconic with many more detail-oriented photos and specific information). I suppose the iconic part is there, but the details are more generalist-ic than I expected. Still, this is a gorgeous book with excellent, well-paced writing that pulls me in and on to the next profile. Some of the individuals included provide a unique take on established fashion elements. This is a fashionista's book, for those of us from whom fashion and its details are, in the end, always about the wearers."

The Killer Detail Defining Moments in Fashion Elisabeth Quin Francois Armanet Azzedine Alaia 9782080201539 Books Reviews
- This book comes with a variety of interpretations from different characters from Julie Christie, to Simone De Bouvoir, Frida Kahlo, Grace Kelly, Sigourney Weaber.
It depicts a cartesian perspective of each celebrity personal style interpretation.
Also extolles the wham factor in each personality.
LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! - Great fun to browse. Interesting info - and an unexpected plus - gives me leads to things I'd like to look into further - facts about artists, books, movements I didn't know, etcetera. Wish the book were larger; would have given it 5 stars. But it's big enough. Not really so much about fashion - that's just an excuse to organize these celebrities of all types together.
- The book teaches and explains distinctions in style vs fashion with elegant writing and excellent photo choices. It's well thought out and offers grand instruction in self-definition through personal style and attitude.
- Interesting profiles of some of the world's most inspiring and inspired fashion icons--some known and others not. Each profile is accompanied by a single photo of the subject.
- Great point of view
- Great pictures - but really needed to be titled "another book of great icons". Did not show any reason these people were different in any detail. Nothing to grab hold of. Just sensational.
- It's an enjoyable book, even though there are many famous people included here who were in no way style icons. Just because Ingrid Bergman was once seen wearing sandals, and Robert Montgomery and Ramon Navarro were in the same film wearing boots - doesn't in any way make them style icons. There are also people included who had very similar style, so the somewhat lofty text is manipulated to create the idea that they were one offs. Not so. One image of Jayne Mansfield in sling back pumps doesn't make her a a style icon. She was anything but.
- This book is not what I expected (a volume focused far more on the technical fashion details that the individuals within started, added life to, or made iconic with many more detail-oriented photos and specific information). I suppose the iconic part is there, but the details are more generalist-ic than I expected. Still, this is a gorgeous book with excellent, well-paced writing that pulls me in and on to the next profile. Some of the individuals included provide a unique take on established fashion elements.
